Kind of slacking...

So I've kind of been slacking on the list the last little while...but at the same time I'm also working on stuff that takes a while to finish off. In the past week I've read 3 new books...which were also by an author that I haven't read before. I've read the entire Queen of Babble series by Meg Cabot. They were easy to read chick lit books. I started the first one last Monday and by tonight I have finished all 3. I couldn't put them down!! If you like chick lit I would definitely recommend reading this series if you haven't already!

I've also been going to the gym on a fairly regular basis. Mostly I've been going twice a week...which I know..is lacking. This week I am aiming for three times...but its hard, because things at work are busy, which makes me super tired and after work I have so many little things to do...aka get togethers with friends, shopping and doing last minute things for work. I can see some small changes in my body already though. Things are tightening up and my abs are starting to show :D

Anyways...I don't have much more to say...so until next week :)

Happy Anniversary!

Well yesterday was our first wedding anniversary :) It was a fun night and I got to cross something off the list :) Mike had a volleyball championship in the morning so I didn't get to really see him until later in the afternoon. He had made reservations for a restaurant called O. Noir in Toronto. It is something I have been wanting to do since I watched an episode of CSI a while back...dinner in the dark!!

30. Go to dinner in the dark

It was actually a really cool experience. For those who have no idea what dinner in the dark is...basically you go to the restaurant, you are brought into a a lobby type of room and given a menu. You then choose what you want to eat (there is a 2 or 3 course choice) and then you are taken into a room off of this room. A waiter/waitress is then brought out to meet you and take you inside the room. All of the wait staff are visually impaired. You then place your hand on the waitress' shoulder and are brought in to your table and your meal is brought to you! It was so dark...like you can't even see your hands infront of your face dark. Dinner itself was amazing. I ordered filet mignon with potatoes and vegetables and had fruit sorbet for dessert. Normally I am a really picky eater....so this experience was interesting since I obviously didn't get to see anything before I ate it. At one point I got kind of frustrated because I couldn't find anything with my fork, so I started using my fingers lol. All in all it was GREAT and it is something I would recommend to others and do again myself.

This week I also tried two new foods...arugula and mango sorbet. The arugula I tried in a pasta salad...usually I just pick it out and don't eat it (I'm not big on anything green lol) but I decided to try it. It's not something I would eat again though...kinda just tasted like chewing a leaf...blah. The mango sorbet I had for my dessert at O. Noir. I was kinda nervous eating the first bite, because on the menu it specified the sorbet as "fruit" but not which kind...in all honesty I was hoping for raspberry...but it was mango....something that I have never tried before. I actually really enjoyed it...and would definitely eat it again!

I also watched Precious this week...so thats another movie off the alphabet list.

I'm still reading Eat, Pray, Love....its taking me forever because I don't feel 100% committed to the book. Hopefully I'll finish it this week and I can move on to my next book and author!

I have a lot of things on the list in progress, but I feel like I haven't accomplished much yet. I'm going to review the list this week and change a few things....not because I don't feel that I will be able to do them...but because I don't feel like they accurately depict things I want to do before my time is up. I want the list to reflect me a little bit more....so there are probably about 5 things I'm going to change!

Anyways...I hope you are all doing well with your lists!

Food...glorious food!

I didn't cross anything officially off my list this week, but I started a couple of them :)

One of my items on the list is to try a new recipe once a week for 3 months...and in the last 2 weeks, I've started this :) Last week we made burgers and needed a side dish, but neither of us wanted the usual fried potatoes or baked potato, so I decided to try making rosemary oven roasted potatoes....SO YUMMY!! Mind you, I didn't really use a recipe....I just kind of threw together a bunch of spices on some new potatoes that we had sitting around. I covered them in oil, salt, pepper, rosemary, paprika and garlic powder. They were so good, but next time I think I'll use a little more spices on them!

This week we went grocery shopping and we came across small whole chickens...so I decided we should get one and I would make roast chicken for dinner...which was honestly the best idea ever! I made it tonight for dinner...I cooked the whole chicken, rubbed it with oil, rosemary (yes rosemary again lol), thyme, salt, pepper and garlic powder...added some water and put some onions on top of the chicken and in the water and slow roasted it for a couple of hours. The chicken turned out so tender that it was falling apart as we tried to take it out of the pan. For side dished I made mashed potatoes, cobs of corn (Ontario grown yay!) and crescent rolls. It was the best dinner I've cooked...like ever lol. I'm becoming quite the little chef!

I also tried something new...which is one of my items (to try 5 new foods). Mike and I were out to dinner on Friday night at East Side's and he ordered scallop carbonara. I have never tried scallops...as I don't really like seafood. I asked him if I could try it...just to taste it so he let me. So my new food is scallops...can't say that I will eat it again, but at least I can say I know what one tastes like!

I've also been keeping up with the gym this week. I've gone three times, for roughly an hour each night. Hopefully I can keep this up!

I'm still reading Eat, Pray, Love...and it seems to be taking me a while. I don't know why but I can't read this book quickly. I know many many many people LOVE this book...but I'm finding it just OK...but who knows...maybe I'll get into it this week. My goal is to finish reading it by the end of this week.

Well until next week...adios!

Stay Awake...must...stay...awake...

Woohoo...another one bites the dust!

87. Go to the Drive-in and stay awake for all of the movies

Last night Mike and I went to the drive in and I stayed awake for both movies! We watched Salt and The Other Guys. It was actually surprisingly easy to do last night for some reason, normally I fall asleep half way through the first one...sometimes just after it. I'm going to attempt a long weekend at the drive-in when I get the chance...as on long weekends there are 3 movies to watch which is a bit more of a challenge.

I also started a few more tasks this week...I started my 1000 piece puzzle, but I'm still kind of in the sorting process, looking for all of the edges at the moment. I have a feeling this one is going to take me a looonnnnnggggg time...but oh well!

This morning I attended a class at the gym...which was a bit disappointing lol...it showed me how out of shape I really am. I only made it half way through the class and had to leave...but I'm not giving up! I'm going to go back next week and try again, and I will keep going back until I make it through the entire class. I'm going to try and get to the gym at least 3 times this week as well...I'm finally feeling better so I think I can do it! I'm going to seriously work on my cardio...no more slacking on a bike...I'm going to use the Treadmill this week!! Yay me haha!

I'm also kind of working on the whole debt thing...I'm going to get my smart serve so that I can work for my sister part-time...she hires people to waitress and pour beer at big events in the city, so she said she would let me know when things come up and I can choose to do them or not. I like the idea, because its not something I have to commit to 100%, I can say no if I don't want to do it and not worry about not being called back. I also have an interview tomorrow for a babysitting job. It's kind of wierd because I've never been interviewed for babysitting before, especially since I'm an ECE...but it's potential extra cash on an occasional basis. Any money I make doing these two things will go directly towards credit cards or school loans...bye bye debt!

Anyways, I'll update again later in the week :) I start Eat, Pray, Love tomorrow!!

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Another one off the list...

I totally meant to update this weekend...but I honestly felt like crap, so it didn't happen. As I wrote last weekend...I came down with strep throat (I guess it's about 2 weeks ago now) and then this weekend I was taken out by your average cold with a vengeance...it sucks. I'm actually still not feeling good, but meh what can you do?

Anyways...this weekend I knocked another one off my list :)

38. Go on a hike through Rattlesnake Park

Mike and I decided to head up to Rattlesnake Point and go for a hike, we planned out our root, even packed a picnic lunch!

Basically Rattlesnake Point is located up on the escarpment in Milton. There are a few hiking paths, you can camp out if you want and lots of people go rock climbing off the side of the escarpment.

It was a lot of fun, we followed a 3km hiking path through the forested area...well we kind of detoured to the edge of the path so we could check out the view. In this picture I climbed over the barrier, this is where man of the rock climbers could set up, and took a picture with the view behind me...beautiful :)

Another view from the path.

We never actually got around to eating our picnic...I was starting to not feel so good, and Mike was ready to head out...plus it actually didn't take us as long as we thought it would, so we just brought out picnic home to eat for lunch.

This week I am not really sure what I'm going to get done off the list...my main goal is to focus on me and feeling better...not sure how I'm going to make that happen other than to take it easy and get some rest. I might go see Step Up 3D by myself...yup...thats right...by myself. It's not on my list, but I really want to do something just for me...and this might be my start!

Anyways...have a great Friday everyone :)

I Hate Being Sick...

So this week was almost completely a write off :(

Sunday night after updating my blog I noticed that I wasn't really hungry and that I had only eaten one meal that day...so I cooked something and ate for the sake of eating. Normally on Sundays I spend the day scavenging for food around here because I can't stop eating. I also noticed that I was getting a bit achy...but thought nothing of it because I had went to the gym that morning. Anyways I went to bed and woke up Monday morning burning up with fever and just feeling shitty. Every movement made me break out into a sweat, I was super tired and just felt BLAH! I went to work for an hour and then came home and took a 4 hour nap...fever went away and I ate 1 meal that day, as I had zero appetite...went to bed Tuesday I woke up burning up with fever again, my throat was killing and still felt generally shitty. I got up and dragged myself into work, somehow survived the day then headed to the walk in to find out I had a lovely case of strep throat! The doctor's exact words were "Eww...that's nasty in there...you have some septic tonsils going on!"...this was at about 6pm...I was given meds, instructed to take a whole days worth before going to bed and then start a regular med. schedule in the morning...finally started feeling better on Wednesday, and was back to my regular self by Thursday :)

I have never had strep so bad in my life...and I've had it millions of times! Its crazy how one night of meds can make all the difference in the world...but anyways thats why not much has happened this week. I feel like I'm not accomplishing much off my list, granted I only started a couple of weeks ago.

This weekend Mike and I are going to go up to Rattlesnake Point, go hiking and have a picnic. I'm looking forward to it :) This will knock two things off my list...38. Go on a hike through Rattlesnake Park and 93. Have a picnic in the Park. I might also try to talk him into catching a movie or two..or three at the Drive-In since it's the long weekend, which would be something else, but thats still up for discussion.

Anywaysssss....I'm off to get ready for the day, going to get my hair all nice and did ;)

This week....

So unfortunately I didn't get as much accomplished as I wanted to...but on the bright side...I started book #2 of the 50 I need to read...my goal is to finish it this week, my next book will be Eat, Pray, Love...which will mark book #3 and also be a new author for me...so two birds with one stone :)

Last weekend Mike and I went to a taping of Comedy Now! which is a comedy show played here on CTV. One of the comics is pretty well known in the industry, Glen Foster. He has made appearances on several tapings of Just For Laughs and Comedy Now!...so I guess that knocks off 37. See a famous stand-up comedian live. The show was hilarious...I was dying of laughter at some points. There were actually two comedians that night...one hour was Glen Foster and the second hour was a new up and coming comedian. It is definitely something that we would do again :)

I also watched a few movies so I can knock a few off the alphabet too! This weekend I watched Did You Hear about the Morgans?, Planet 51, Mulligans and Inception.

Did You Hear About the Morgans
was pretty funny. It stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant...basically its about a couple who witness a murder and have to go into a witness protection program. It was free on TMN on Demand so I figured why not!?, as were the next two movies I watched...

Planet 51 is a cartoon about aliens...lots of famous people do the voices for the characters including Justin Long and Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock). Honestly it was cute...it had some funny moments and was pretty much a twist on the "aliens invading our planet" theme. Basically the movie is based on an alien planet "Planet 51" and an astronaut lands on the planet and the aliens believe that he is an alien who is there to take over their planet.

Mulligans was ok...not at all what I thought it was going to be about based on the description I read. I assumed it was going to be about friends (what I thought would be a guy and a girl) who fall in love with each other over the summer...but nope it was about two guys who spend the summer at one of the guy's family summer houses...the best friend admits that hes gay and then secretly has a fling with his best friend's father. The acting wasn't terrible for a B movie but meh the storyline was kind of boring.

Inception was awesome!! Mike and I went to a late viewing of the movie on Saturday night. The special affects and storyline were really good! It's pretty long (2.5 hours) but we weren't bored for a single minute of the movie....highly recommended if you haven't already seen it!

I have decided that for my scrapbook I am going to make a scrapbook for Mike and I over the years....it's obviously not a scrapbook that I can finish before this challenge is done but it is something that will be well under way by that point. Before our anniversary next month I am going to pick up a scrapbook at Michaels and get started. I'll start with a couple of pages of us over the past few years, followed by an engagement page and finally one for our wedding. I will then do a page for our 1 year anniversary and any big life event following. I'm excited!! I have a bunch of scrapbooking stuff already, and now I have a plan so time to get started!

To address my last message...I sent my so called BFF a bbm message pretty much asking if we were ever going to get together for dinner...like we've been talking about for the last couple of months....or if I should just give up...and the response pretty much says it all.....I haven't gotten a response yet! Oh well I guess...

Anyways...hopefully this week I can accomplish more off my list :) Cheers!

A Letter to You...

So...in the past year and a bit I seem to be losing my best friend...I'm not really sure whats happening, maybe it's just that we're growing apart, as our lives are very different...especially since she moved away. Well...now she is back and things are just well...awkward? lonely? I don't even know...but I miss the old us. Anyways...this is just kind of a rant/open letter to her...chances that I will ever send it are probably slim to none...but at least I wrote it!

Dear You,
We've been through a lot together in the last 9 years. We've gone from riding around in strange cars with boys we kind of knew to marrying strange boys we picked up at pub ;)....but...and theres always a but....things have changed between us. I miss the friendship we used to have. It feels like over the last year that I am losing you...us. It's easy to pretend that I don't care and that things will get better, because lets face it...with us, they usually do, but this time feels different. It doesn't feel like the other times this time, this time feels more permanent and although I really hope it isn't, I still have that nagging feeling. You have been back for a couple of months now and have only made the effort to see me twice and one of those times you barely said shit all to me all night long. I message you and ask you if you can let me know when you are free so that we can get together and you ignore my messages for a day or longer and then message me back, when I know you read them right away (that little 'R' in bbm means read btw). You tell me you will let me know days and times and NEVER do...or come up with these total last minute ideas and expect me to just come. I know that you make way more time for your other friends and yea I'll admit it...I'm jealous...what makes them more important than me? What do they do to make you commit to something when you can't commit to a fucking dinner or a drink with me? It drives me crazy...I hate being the only one of us who seems to care...you tell me that you miss me, but then fail to do anything to strengthen this weakening friendship. I feel like you barely even know me anymore...you have no idea what has gone on in my life since the wedding and it sucks...UGH...

This week I am going to make one last effort at getting together...I will initiate a get together...whether its dinner or a movie or whatever...heres hoping you take this opportunity to get to know me again...if not...then I guess its goodbye and goodluck

Sincerely,
Your Broken Hearted Friend

This Weeks Tasks...

So this week I didn't accomplish a whole lot...I completed the 50 Questions to Free Your Mind Survey...but I'm going to aim higher this week. So far I am in the process of reading a new book...and I have 2 new authors lined up for one of my other tasks. I am also going to try a new recipe this week :) which I'm excited about....if any of you have any yummy recipes you want to share please leave them and I will give them a shot!

This week I think I will also put my cake decorating skills to use...I plan to make cupcakes for the girls at work (using cake decorating techniques), as one of the girls recently got engaged. Not sure what I'm going to do just yet...but should be fun! Along with this, I plan to bring my own lunch for the entire week...keep your fingers crossed that I can do it...I'm usually one of the first to cave when someone steps out for lunch.

Next month I plan to complete the no pop and no fast food for a month tasks...I've made it a competition with the girls I work with, we're all going to put some money into a jar and whoever lasts the entire month splits the money...I'm doing this for me to prove I can do this...but a little incentive never hurt anyone...right?

50 Questions to Open Your Mind...

Alright...so I thought I would tackle something on my list today and since hubby is busy watching FIFA I thought I would do the 50 Questions to Open Your Mind Survey that is on my list....so here goes!!

1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? hmmm...I feel like a 30 year old...but looking at me I would think I was maybe 20ish
2. Which is worse, failing or never trying? Never Trying
3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so
many things we don’t do?
because it's easier to do what we're used to then to venture out and try something new...and if people are anything like me...we're very good at procrastinating
4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Most likely...I tend to say I am going to do things and then don't...hopefully this project will help me with that
5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world? Poverty
6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich? What I do now...working with children...they make me happy every day :)
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing? a little bit of both...I love working with children and I know what I do helps build their foundation for later in life...but at the same time I'm sure there is more that I could be doing
8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently? hmm...I'd spend my time doing more that I love doing...have a house and kids by now too probably
9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? I would say 75%ish
10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? Doing the right things
11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do? I would stand up for the friend in some way...knowing me the other people still wouldn't stop, but I would at least say that I didn't agree with what they were saying...and if it got bad enough I would probably leave
12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be? you are loved
13. Would you break the law to save a loved one? If it was a matter of life and death, YES
14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity? yes
15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people? the way I eat...I don't like when things touch on the plate...yuck!
16) How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy? because not everyone feels the same way about the same things I do
17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back? buy a house...mostly money is holding us back...but we'll have our own house one day
18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? I'm going to say yes...I have a tendency to do that...I always feel like I need to hold onto things in order to keep the memories and feelings intact...even though deep down I know that's not true.
19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why? Out East somewhere...life is so much quieter there
20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster? sometimes..I know it doesn't make it come any faster but I can be impatient
21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton? A joyful Simpleton. I already worry enough as it is, and it is not productive.
22. Why are you, you? this is just who I am...this is the person that life has made me out to be
23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend? I try to be...and I like to think that I am
24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you? Losing touch with a friend who lives right near you.
25. What are you most grateful for? Being alive
26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones? I would rather not be able to make new ones...like I said before I tend to hold on to memories...and they've made me who I am
27. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first? nope
28. Has your greatest fear ever come true? No
29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now? yes...it felt like the end of the world..but no it doesn't matter at all now
30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special? Christmases at Nana and Papa's house...it was a time when all of the family was together and it is even more special because Nana and Papa were still here...
31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive? working with the kiddies
32. If not now, then when? Then never
33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose? that feeling of triumph...that you were actually able to do it...even when people tell you you can't
34. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever? Yes
35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars? lots of reasons...money, politics, greed...the list goes on and on...
36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil? no...its a fine line that can easily be crossed, but does not have an actual definite definition
37. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job? maybe....I'd maybe work part-time or just do volunteer work...a million dollars doesn't last that long nowadays
38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing? More work I actually enjoy doing.
39. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before? Yes, I have
40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in? probably never
41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today? I'd throw a party and have them all over
42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous? nope...it wouldn't make me any happier.
43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living? everyone is alive...truly living is what makes you feel alive...it's living your life to the best of your potential..
44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right? probably right away....but I think everything over way too much
45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake? because sometimes we don't always learn from a mistake the first time...its only normal to fear making a mistake
46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you? Probably nothing.
47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing? every now and then...when I have a panic attack...not the best time to think about it but its when it becomes most obvious
48. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love? Family, Friends, Mike, the dog....and yes I let them know I love them everyday
49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that? probably not because I didn't do anything really worth remembering...
50. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you? I try to make my own decisions...I do whats best for me and my family...

And it begins...

I'm totally notorious for starting blogs and abandoning them shortly thereafter. In the last year I have probably started 3 or 4 blogs, but I'm hoping that this one will actually inspire me to keep this one open and up to date.

This blog has been started because of something called the Day Zero Project. Basically the goal of this project is to create a list of 101 tasks that you want to complete and you are given 1001 days to do it in. Over the next couple of days I am going to put my list together and get started :) I'm actually pretty excited to get started on this...hopefully I will be able to keep this up and not drop it as soon as I'm bored of it.

So the list is up...

Start Date: July 11, 2010....lets begin!!
